Networking organisations for interims
Networking organisations
There are numerous networking organisations both online and offline that offer excellent networking opportunities for interim managers.
Interim Management Dining Club – excellent opportunity to meet other interim managers and service providers over dinner in superb surroundings.
Institute of Interim Management – Professional body for interim managers, holding regular 'Node' meetings across the UK, as well as seminars on useful topics for interim managers.
Association of Professional Interims – Professional body for interim managers holding regular networking meetings.
The Executive Network – Networking organisation for senior executives including an Interim Management Special Interest Group.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAEW) also runs an Interim Management Special Interest Group, providing excellent networking opportunities, including evening seminars on specialist topics.
Turnaround Management Association – specifically aimed at those with turnaround management.
There are numerous events held by the interim service providers throughout the year and details can be found on their websites or on the Interim Hub events page.
Industry/Professional Associations
You should know which are the best associations where decision makers from your target market meet and the events/conferences they attend. There is no better place to network than where your potential clients are.
Alumni
If you have an MBA from a business school, there is a good chance they have a highly active alumni association. These are often very active and can be a great place to network and meet potential collaborators as well as clients.
Online Networking
There are groups to suit interim managers of all types. However, getting involved in online discussions can end up taking up a lot of your time. As with the offline networking it’s worth keeping in mind that they are a route to finding assignments rather than assignments themselves!
Most interim managers have invested a lot of time and effort in developing a robust LinkedIn profile and we would highly recommend you do the same. Organisations look to LinkedIn as part of their recruitment strategy and are starting to use it more and more for finding interim managers. Plaxo also seems to be reasonably popular.
