IMA Interim Induction Workshop
Want to become an interim manager but don’t know how to go about it? Then this one-day workshop is right for you. It is the only workshop that has been endorsed and approved by the Interim Management Association.
The workshop is presented by Simon Berry. Simon has operated as a consultant and interim manager for the past fifteen years and has personally coached and run workshops for over 2000 interim managers to help them kick start their careers in interim management.
He is supported during the day with representatives from leading interim service providers and online marketing experts.
Who should attend?
The workshop is geared towards individuals:
- considering entering the market as an interim manager
- committed to entering the market as an interim manager, but looking for the fastest route to success
Objective
The workshop has two primary objectives:
- Help you decide if interim management is right for you
- Help you kick start your career as quickly as possible
The workshop leaders will not look to influence your decision to enter interim management in any way. They simply want you to make the right decision for you and your circumstances. They will therefore look at interim management ‘warts and all’.
The workshop is extremely practical. There are plenty of breakouts so you can apply the learning to your own particular circumstances. By the end of the day, you should have a clear outline plan of how you are going to make it happen. We have even had newcomers find their first assignment within a week!!
We keep the numbers down to just 18 per workshop to allow plenty on interaction and discussion.
Topics
- What is interim management? It’s important to be able to differentiate yourself in the marketplace from consultants, freelancers and contractors
- What is the state of the market? The latest market statistics on interim management usage
- What do clients look for in an interim? What qualities do you need to succeed?
- The interim market and where you fit in. Knowing your market enables you to define your place in it, and this is essential for an interim manager. Clients generally like to work with specialists in key areas, so make sure you know where you shine and clearly set this out in your value proposition.
- Getting your CV right. Don’t undersell yourself with an ineffective CV. Interim management is a highly competitive business and it is essential that your CV sets you apart from the crowd.
- Marketing yourself and your product. A good product poorly marketed will not sell. Understand the essential points of self-marketing when working as an interim (covered in more detail in our self-marketing workshop for interims).
- Working with interim providers. These are specialist recruitment agencies that place interims in work, and are a key route to market, especially in certain sectors. Make sure you find the right interim provider for you. Many of the leading providers are members of the Interim Management Association.
- Effective networking (online and offline). A large proportion of interim assignments are won through the interim’s own personal network. Find out how to focus your networking to win assignments and grow your business.
- The business meeting. Improve your approach to business meetings and win more assignments as a result.
- Setting up and running your own limited company. All interim managers must work through their own limited company. Operating through your own limited company looks professional to clients and providers, and guarantees absolute compliance for interim managers. We advise on the best way to set up and run your interim business from scratch.

Feedback from previous delegates
"I always think that if I can just take one or two good ideas away from a course it's been worth attending, but yours was packed with really useful tips and suggestions. And I can now guarantee that they work! After the course I followed your advice and tweaked my CV and spent a bit of time finding out how best to use LinkedIn, including joining some of the Groups. After a couple of days I found a job posting in one of the groups' newsletters that sounded promising so I sent off my CV. Within half an hour I got a call from the Interim Agency, a couple of days later I had an interview with [a FTSE 100 company] and was offered a 6 month contract which I started last Monday.”
Denise Him
"...A big thank you for the session the other day - I went into it not knowing just how structured the interim market was or if it was for me. Then yesterday morning I received unbidden an offer for 6 months part-time interim work on a services integration project at a previous consultancy client! Without the course, I would have gone into the introductory meeting tomorrow with my eyes closed. Now, just glancing at the proposed engagement contract, I will have so much more confidence to question... and quite possibly walk away!”
David Harris
"Thanks for an excellent IMA workshop yesterday. Definitely one of the best and most useful courses I've been on. Many of the ideas could be used in all sorts of areas, not just IM"
John Norton
"An inspiring, insightful and highly relevant workshop yesterday - thank you!"
Sabina Mangosi-Regan
"The day was fun as well as informative. It has made me re-assess how I market and sell myself. As a result of the information provided on the day I have opened several different routes to market which are starting to pay dividends. The day was money well spent!"
John Steele
"This is a 'not to be missed' workshop for those serious about entering and sustaining a career in the world of interim management and is packed full of tips and practical examples on how to approach the market and target clients. A career in interim management is not one that should be entered into lightly, but I guarantee that at the end of this workshop, those who attend will be clear about the path they wish to take."
Martin Smith - Senior Consultant, Penna
"I attended an Interim Managers workshop in November 2011 which was led by Simon Berry. I simply have to say it was one of the best courses I have attended. Simon style is to provide you with as much practical information as possible but the depth of what is provided is truly revealed when you leave the course and still remember Simon's word of wisdom."
Eunice Edwards
"Have been following your advice and am pleased to say that on Thursday I was offered not one but two different six month contracts."
Heather-Anne Hubbell
"I would recommend to anyone seriously thinking of Interim Management as a new career investing some time and money with Simon. We all can benefit from coaching and mentoring. It’s all about finding the right coach!"
Stephen Price - Interim CEO
"Well worth my time. Stopped me hestitating and started me going for change wholeheartedly."
Richard Lerner - Interim Manager
"I would just like to say thank you again for all the help you have given me in understanding the world of interim management.
I finished with British Gas in Cardiff just over two weeks ago and I have now secured an interim project manager position in the Department of Transport."
Paul Johnston - Interim Manager
"I must say that the most resounding element that stayed with me throughout my 'set-up process' was the creation of the Value Proposition – and I know that having this nailed has helped me secure business!"
Karen Dunn - Interim Manager
